Technical Sergeant Ricardo A. Chavez

Technical Sergeant Ricardo A. Chavez was born in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from J.M Hanks High School, El Paso, Texas, in 1999. In December 2000, he enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) and completed technical training at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), Texas, as a Sec urity Forces Specialist. Sergeant Chavez has since served as an Installation Patrolman, an Assistant NCOIC of the Armory and as a member of the elite Emergency Services Team. He was selected by wing leadership to perform duties as a Joint Drug Enforcement Team Agent in which he worked undercover combating the use of illegal narcotics in the USAF. In 2004, Sergeant Chavez applied for and was accepted as a Security Forces Academy Instructor. After 1,000 instructor hours, Sergeant Chavez earned his AETC Master Instructor badge. In 2007, Sergeant Chavez made the transition from active duty to the Air Force Reserve. Cross-training to be a Military Training Instructor (MTI), Sergeant Chavez graduated from MTI School in January 2008, receiving both the Distinguished Graduate and Excellence in Instruction Awards. Immediately following graduation, Sergeant Chavez began augmenting the active duty 737th Training Group, Lackland AFB, Texas. Soon thereafter, he was selected to assist the 433d Training Squadron (TRS), Lackland AFB, Texas, with the reactivation of the active duty Basic Military Training (BMT) squadron, the 321 TRS at Lackland AFB. Sergeant Chavez currently serves as the 737 Training Support Squadron Unit Training Manager (UTM) for the largest squadron, 150+, in Air Force BMT. Besides his MTI duties, he is responsible for the overall management of the unit’s training program. He conducts comprehensive trainee orientation and compliance documentation for newly assigned instructors. He was recognized as the 433 TRS and 321 TRS Rookie of the Year 2008, the 433 TRS NCO of the Quarter 2009, the Joe Kellog 2009 winner, the 433d Airlift Wing (AW) Blue Suit Outstanding NCO 2010, the coveted Master Military Training Instructor Blue Rope in October 2010, the 433 AW NCO of the Year 2009/ 2010 and the 4 AF NCO of the Year 2010. Sergeant Chavez is renowned for his volunteer work, which resulted in his award of the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. His other awards and decorations include the Air Force (AF) Commendation Medal with one device, the AF Achievement Medal with 1 device, the AF Outstanding Unit Award with two devices, the AF Good Conduct Medal with one device, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the USAF BMT Instructor Ribbon, the USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with one device and more. Sergeant Chavez is a 2007 graduate of Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education and has earned two Associate of Applied Science degrees from the Community College of the Air Force.
