Naval Aircrewman (MECHANICAL) First Class

AWF1 James Lee HensonJames Lee Henson was born on 23 February 1973 in Tampa, Florida. He attended public school and graduated Tampa High School, Tampa, Florida in June 1995. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the United States Navy in December 1995. After the completion of Basic Training at RTC Great Lakes, Seaman Recruit Henson was meritoriously advanced to Seaman Apprentice for demonstrating exceptional leadership. Following recruit training, he reported to NTTC Meridian, Mississippi where he attended AZ "A" school, was advanced to Airman and finished top of his class.

In June 1996, Airman Henson reported to PMRF, Barking Sands Kauai, Hawaii. He was meritoriously advanced to 3rd Class under the accelerated advancement program. It was here that he qualified as the only AZ Non-Pilot Turn Operator & Brake Rider for the UH-3H Helicopter in PACFLEET which aided in his receipt of JSOQ and JSOY for 1997.

He transferred to Electronic Attack Squadron One Four Zero (VAQ-140) in February 2000. Assigned as NALCOMIS System Administrator, he immediately began a six month cruise with the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Battle Group, where he provided systems analyst and data analyst support for 12 NALCOMIS work stations and 10 work centers. For his meticulous attention to detail and exceptional administrative management, he was awarded his 2nd Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

In February 2002, he transferred to Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment (AIMD), Mayport, Florida. He was selected for Petty Officer First Class in October of 2002 and awarded SOQ in 2002 and 2004.

Petty Officer Henson transferred to the Naval Reserve and affiliated with FLELOGSUPPRON FIVE EIGHT (VR-58) in March 2005. He qualified as a Naval Aircrewman and is currently assigned as a C-40A Loadmaster with additional duties as Maintenance Control Leading Petty Officer and Senior Watchbill Coordinator.

In civilian life, Petty Officer Henson's manages his own Insurance Brokerage Firm. Under his leadership he manages 13 companies, consisting of 323 employees where he evaluates, implements, and administers their respective employer sponsored benefit packages.

Petty Officer Henson is entitled to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5), Meritorious Unit Commendation (3), Navy Battle "E", Navy and Marine Good Conduct Medal (3), Navy Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Global War on Terrorism Service, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Sharpshooter Pistol Ribbon.

Petty Officer Henson is married to Jeniece Carter-Henson of Cocoa Beach, Florida. They have three children: Marissa, Megan, and Avery. The Henson family currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.
