Sergeant Major Gary L. Martz

Sergeant Major Martz reported for duty as the Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) to the Reserve Forces Policy Board (RFPB) on 10 September 2009. SGM Martz serves as the subject matter expert for personnel, mobilization and readiness issues impacting enlisted personnel from all seven reserve components. In this capacity he works and interacts with the senior military and civilian leadership throughout the Department of Defense. SGM Martz also acts as a liaison with senior NCO policy boards within the Joint Staff and Office of the Secretary of each of the uniformed services and researches, drafts and staffs papers, including policy and legislative recommendations.

SGM Martz enlisted in the U.S. Army at Little Rock, Arkansas, on 28 November 1983, attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. In over 27 years of service, SGM Martz has held assignments with: 82nd Airborne Replacement Detachment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 7th Transportation Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 1/72 Armor Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea; Army Reserve Personnel Center, St. Louis, Missouri; Co D, 245th Engineer Battalion (Cbt) (Corps), New Orleans, Louisiana; 301st Military Intelligence Battalion (TE), Pasadena, Texas; Full-Time Support Management Center, Office of the Chief, Army Reserve, St. Louis, Missouri; Full-Time Support Management Directorate, Army Reserve-Personnel Command, St. Louis, Missouri; Kaiserslautern Regional Support Detachment, 7th Army Reserve Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany and the 377th Theater Support Command, New Orleans, Louisiana. He served as the United States Army Reserve G-1 Sergeant Major in his previous assignment.

His deployments include Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Achievement Medal.

SGM Martz's civilian education includes a Master of Business Administration from Touro University International, Cypress, California, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. His military education includes the Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer's Course and he is a graduate of Class 55 (Resident), United States Army Sergeants Major Course.
